The Rwanda Street Kid Project
Living on the streets in Kigali, Rwanda are about 6000 street kids. They are orphans from the genocide, orphans from AIDS or victims of poverty. In a country where 90% are subsistent farmers, life is not easy. They come to the city from the village hoping to make a life for themselves. To be somebody and come face to face with the death are realities of life.
They are alone, hopeless and don't know how to dream of a better life. What they need are people to believe in them, see the good in them, know that they have gifts and skills to be discovered and desire that they become productive members of society.
That is what our friend Jennifer Kamari is trying to do for about 250 street kids in Kigali by:
•building relationships - knowing their name and journeying with them through their life stories
•providing education - many have never been to school and others are earning a trade to enable them to be an apprentice and then pursue a job
•Giving medical assistance as needed
We at OMEGA are excited about what the Rwanda Street Kid Project is doing among this group of street kids in Kigali. Their lives are changing. It's a slow and long process, but YOU can join with OMEGA and help make a difference in the lives of these kids!
You can donate a few dollars (no amount is too small) to show these kids in Kigali that American skaters care about them and want to help make their world better by sharing with them through OMEGA and the Rwanda Street Kids Project. Thanks!!
